Pope Leo XIV Delivers Surprise Blessing at Slovakian Rave
The gathering, held in the vicinity of the 14th-century St. Elizabeth Cathedral in Kosice, celebrated the 75th birthday of Archbishop Bernard Bober.
The occasion featured a concert-like arrangement complete with lasers, smoke machines, projection screens, and a DJ stage.
The performance was delivered by Padre Guilherme, popularly known as the “DJ priest,” who travels internationally with electronic music shows that fuse techno with sacred and traditional influences.
Although the event occurred on November 8, the Pope’s video message gained widespread attention over the weekend after Padre Guilherme posted it on social media under the caption: “Electronic music, faith and Pope Leo XIV message.”
The clip shows the pontiff projected onto the cathedral walls as the priest played his unreleased track “Dear Young People,” part of his forthcoming EP titled “Integral Ecology.”
During the address, lasers, spotlights, and projection mapping illuminated the historic facade.
“With joy I greet you as you gather before the splendid cathedral of Kosice, which is a beating heart of faith and hope,” the Pope stated, speaking directly to the audience.
Pope Leo XIV, whose birth name is Robert Francis Prevost and hails from Chicago, became the 267th leader of the Catholic Church earlier this year, making him the first American to hold the position.
Since the start of his papacy, he has emphasized cultural interaction and discovering innovative methods to promote religious principles through artistic expression.
